Welcome!!

Hi! We are the Plunks: Jennifer, Jeff, Matthew and Maddie! Welcome to our blog. I started this blog to chronicle our service dog adventure, but it has evolved into a place for me to jot down my thoughts... about autism, parenting, family, working, but mostly about celebrating life and the God who gifted us with it. Enjoy the ride!

St. John Day 3..."Island Time"

There’s no time like “island time”. We tried to explain this to Matthew, and of course he argued that we are, indeed, still in the Easter time zone. Yes, this is true. But on the island, things are very relaxed and work on their own time table. They are not bound by our citi-fied restrictions or expectations of time. Relax. Take a deep breath. Things will happen when they happen.

So, you can understand our surprise that the mechanic had called us and left a message even before we came up to the main house at 7:30am! We called back, made a plan… and since then have been waiting… waiting… waiting. It is now noon, and we are waiting on the phone to ring. Is a “mobile mechanic” going to come check out the Jeep, or is the other mechanic going to have it towed to his shop? The answer is still unknown, and Matthew is beside himself. All this waiting on phone calls has completely derailed the initial plan of going on an early morning hike on the trail we found that starts at the upstairs balcony and heads up the mountain. He’s still waiting… sometimes patiently, sometimes – not so much. Reasonably so, because Jeff and I are also beginning to not feel so patient. Maddie, well, she has spent the entire day with the exception of lunch and brief sunscreen reapplications, in the pool.

And so we wait…. The phone should ring anytime now. In the mean time, I think we’ll go count Jeff’s mosquito bites. We’ve been bathing in OFF, but they absolutely LOVE him. He says they don’t itch, though… THAT’S a good thing, because I’ve counted to 24 and I’m only on the front of one arm! He looks like folks on “Survivor”!
We finally convinced Matthew to get in the pool to pass the time. Maybe now the waiting won’t be so hard. Off to read…… and wait…

Finally, a mechanic came, but he could not fix the car. He said it would have to be towed. Right after he left, though, the mobile mechanic called. He came out and diagnosed the problem. The crank shaft sensor is bad, and he said he would be able to come back tomorrow with the part (probably around noon – we’re not holding our breath). SO, we swam in the pool some more then got ready for dinner.

We walked over the Concordia Café, but they were not serving dinner yet (and with kids’ menu prices at $10, I don’t think we’ll go back), so we walked back toward the house and stopped at an outdoor restaurant called “The Tourist Trap”. Jeff and I had delicious lobster rolls and the best key lime icecream (home made) I’ve ever had. The kids had mediocre hamburgers…

After dinner, we took another swim. Then we cleaned up and snuggled in together for a movie and popcorn.
