We are falling in love with Dante more and more each day,
and I loved him so much the first time I laid eyes on him
I didn't think that was possible!!
Yesterday (day 7) we worked on obedience amidst distractions
in the morning, and Dante did pretty well (he did MUCH
better today). Bless his heart... he is so perky and so
alert it's just hard to stay in a 'sit' or a 'down' for too
long. He's learning to respect my authority more and more
though, and by this afternoon he even stayed in a down while
I bounced and threw his tennis ball (major torture).
Yesterday afternoon was spent at the mall. Dante did great,
even better than the time before. He is sooooo easy to
'heel' and in general is pretty eager to please. I still
haven't been able to get him to jump up into the car (not
even after his ball), but I'm sure it will happen. In the
mean time, he's easy enough to lift up and in. :)
This was Maddie's last day here in Ohio, so we took her
sledding one last time. Then we went to dinner and to the
4 Paws Snow Buddies Super Bowl party. Maddie and Hannah
had to say goodbye, but they plan to be penpals and stay in
touch. We've met some great folks on this trip and in this
class, Hannah's family included. We'll see them when we
come back to Ohio to get Doodlebug for Maddie. :)
Today (Monday, Day 8) was a really good day, but it started
out sad. We had to say goodbye to Maddie, MaMa and PaPa.
They dropped us off at 4 Paws and then headed south to GA.
Our friend, Donnie, another 4 Paws family, came up today
and will join our class for extra training with her dog
Chancer. We'll ride back to Atlanta with her.
This morning we worked with Jennifer on behavior disruption.
Dante is doing great with "touch" and with getting up in
Matthew's lap. Right now it's very treat-motivated, but
it's still so cool.
Meeting the other families is one of my favorite things
about this journey. We've met a family from CA that walks
a road very similar to ours, and it has been so great
getting to know them. They came back to the retreat center
today for some sledding... everyone had a great time.
