We were driving to karate this morning, and Matthew said, "It's good to get back in the swing of things." What a difference a year makes!! This time last year, because of our summer travels, he and Maddie had missed a month of karate and piano. Matthew loved both of those activities, but he did not miss them over the summer. He got back in the swing of things, but there was no since of having missed them. He even said he didn't miss them and seemed to have lost momentum in both. Nevertheless, he started back and resumed his momentum and excelled. They both had to refresh their memories in karate, but it only took a few classes to get back up to speed. THIS year has been totally different! Maddie said this week that she realizes she actually enjoys practicing the piano!! She said she used to not like it, but now she looks forward to it! I think it's because she has been practicing more consistently and so is not as frustrated with the process. Matthew has jumped back in with a relishing - obvious that he has missed it. Neither one forgot their karate, and they are both working so hard and doing their very best. Matthew is suddenly bending his legs more while keeping his back straight... and keeping his hands sharper! The sensai's noticed too... today he TIED with Maddie to win one of the hokei competitions!!! Even several of the kids voted for him! It was a stellar moment; one I won't soon forget!
My heart is so full.......
